(More customer reviews)The product worked well; my reception with no 2-way passive splitter before the amp is the same as my reception after installation of a passive 2-way splitter, one branch feeding the amp, the other my cable modem.
The instructions on the box indicate the cable modem could be fed through the amp, but the instruction sheet inside says to use a passive splitter. I wish they could either get their story straight, or explain the pros and cons if there really is no clear answer.
The listing does not make it obvious, but the power supply plugs in indoors (120 V AC) and is routed through a coax to the amp, which could be outdoors, becase the housing is weathertight. Just be sure to use waterproof coax connectors if using it outside.
You supply your own mounting screws and coax.
