We moved into a house that already had an old-school VHF/UHF antenna on the roof. We're about 45 miles from a cluster of stations. Overall, reception was pretty good, but a few of our favorites at the higher frequencies (e.g. 6.1, which is on RF channel 40), were a bit unpredictable. I looked at UHF antennas which dominate the digital antenna sales, but my concern was that a number of our most-watched channels are in the high VHF range: 8, 10, 12. I didn't want to end up losing them, so I opted for this antenna.
It works great. Since we already had an antenna mounted on the roof, swapping this one in was very easy. Though it looked large sitting in the living room, on the roof it ended up appearing smaller than than old VHF antenna, which had long elements for the low VHF channels no longer used. The performance is as I'd hoped for: the lower channels 8 through 12 did not go down in strength (they were around 92 before), but the higher channels are now much stronger, with many of the 70-80 strengths now coming in at 93+. Channels the would occasionally drop out have been rock steady.
This IS a directional antenna, so keep that in mind if you are trying to pick up stations from different bearings. You should visit antennaweb.org (or similar sites) to understand where the stations are located, and what their true RF channels are. This antenna may or may not meet your requirements.
Overall, if you're looking for a really good directional UHF/high-VHF antenna at a reasonable price, this one should be on your list.
