Viore PLC10V49 10.2-Inch Portable Widescreen LCD TV, Black Review

Viore PLC10V49 10.2-Inch Portable Widescreen LCD TV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Most of these reviews are specific to each individual's use and hookup.
Here is my input, after comparing to a similar 10.2" Haier HLT10:
1) Regarding the other review on the audio, you can't expect much from 1"
speakers. This Viore was better (clearer sound) than the Haier HLT10.
2) Picture was great on either model, but that's usually the case when the
screen is so small. It's like saying my 2" screen on digital camera
is great.
3) Regarding the Tuner operation in this Viore model, based on my hookup to
Cable which carries both digital and analog channels:
First off, both models have a NTSC/ATSC as well as QAM tuner which will
receive your off analog/digital/and cable digital channels. So for that
I gave 2 stars for having the QAM as well.
Second: The Viore is much less user friendly for channel setup than any
other TV I've seen. After scanning my analog/digital cable, it separates
the TV/DTV (analog/digital) channels in 2 menus rather than mix them all
together when changing channels. So before changing channels you need to
use the source menu to choose TV or DTV. Viore told me they do it this
way because they have 2 tuners. (But how does every other brand get
around this?)
My biggest complaint is you cannot skip the DTV channels, as the skip
is only for analog channels (which we don't care about any more). So
if you are flipping through channels and come across one channel which
has 80 sub-channels (like I have), you need to keep flipping 80 times
just to go to the next channel.
The alternative is not so useful either and you need to know the ch# you
want to go to. Ex: If you need to go to ch 105-1, you need to press:
1-0-5-(10+ key for the "dash") and also the ENTER key.
Ex: channel 82-4 is entered as 8-2-(10+ key for the "dash")-ENTER.
Again I called tech support and they agreed there is no way to skip
the DTV channels. They said it was designed to select channels using
the EPG instead. So I tried that, but it only displays the program
time slots for the CURRENT channel. So how do you get to the next channel? You flip through the CH+/- or use the arrows on remote and you're
back to same problem: If a channel has 80 sub-channels, you must keep
flipping thru all of those before you get to the next channel.
Basically it cannot skip the DTV channels nor create a favorites list.
4) Now regarding Off-The-Air (free TV) channel reception:
My comparison includes this TV, the Haier HLT10, an RCA set-top
box (from $40 rebate program) and a Samsung HDTV set-top box. All
these work the same way using VSB (ATSC) tuners.
You may notice many complaints on off-the-air reception. But it's usually
a matter of location and antenna used. In my case living in Dallas area,
all these tuners including the Viore picked up almost all channels listed
for my area, but only with a good antenna. The supplied antenna with this
model is useless as you may have heard.
To keep it short, choose an antenna shaped like this one, or just buy
this one if you need a portable antenna (vs. roof top or attic-mount):
PHILIPS PHDTV1 SILVER SENSOR HDTV ANTENNA (same as the former Zenith
model ZHDTV1). You will still need to reposition it for best reception,
but it outperforms most other indoor types.

Haier HLTD7 7-Inch Handheld HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black Review

Haier HLTD7 7-Inch Handheld HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black
Average Reviews:

Great set with wonderful picture. Sound is weak so I added Bose Music Monitor speakers and that completely solved that problem (connected to earphone jack). Internal speakers are OK while on the go. This set is identical to one sold by Supersonic but picture quality of Haier is superior. DVD works well. Remote is well laid out and superior to the one that came with the Supersonic. The antenna connection is recessed and diffacult to get to without a wrench. I added a 90 degree screw adapter from Radio Shack and now the connection is easyly made.
Love the dvd feature and added Bose speakers for home use. Set is easy to operate and quality superior to Supersonic.
PLEASE NOTE: Set is black and much better looking than the picture showen. I have two of these units and use one everyday in my bedroom.
In my area an external antenna is required ---- I use the internal/external DIRECTIONAL dish from Radio Shack---cost about $87.00.

Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV Review

Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My old little portable TV used for emergencies "expired" in February 2009 - so I ordered one of these because they are set up for the new digital broadcasts. The first one I received didn't pick up any channels and had no sound. I figured it had to be a damaged unit, so returned it to Amazon for a replacement and the second one is working fine. Picks up most of my local channels -Some with amazing clarity and others fuzzy, but I live out in the country, so I'm okay with that since it's really just for emergencies. I'm amazed at the technology, seeing such a sharp, full color picture on that little screen. I've read from other reviews that the battery lasts about 2 hours, but hopefully that'll get us thru a storm. Comes with AC cord, detachable antenna, triple video input cable, car plug-in, remote control (including batteries) and rechargable internal battery. Note, internal battery MUST be installed before it will come on. It's got one of those tiny plug-ins like cordless phones, so make sure it's connected. Overall, I would recommend it.

The HLT71 connects to other devices with an audio/video jack and coaxial output. Watch with others using the built-in twin speaker system, or plug your headphones into the included jack to enjoy your favorite programs without disturbing those around you. The only reason for the 3-stars is the stand which prompted me to return the unit. The output is a razor sharp 800x480. When the stand failed just weeks after receiving it I was glad & disappointed all in the same instant. If your intention is to set it up and leave it its worth the money. Just don't move the stand in/out too often as the one I had broke internally making it useless.

This little television is amazing considering that the old hand held analogue tv's are now obsolete. The unit is great for traveling because it is more compact than any previous portable dvd player i owned, and although tv reception varies depending on one's location, channels can normally be picked up by adjusting the provided digital antennae. Considering that a built-in rechargeable battery, car adapter, and digital antennae are included with the package, this is a great deal for the sale price.
UPDATE:
DVD portion of the unit froze and broke after only several uses. Contacted customer service via e-mail and they shipped out another one within a week of receiving the defective unit. I tried it one time and so far it still works. Tv part of the unit continues to work fine, but we'll see if the dvd player holds up. Can't complain about costumer service as they were pretty effective via the e-mail.

Digital Labs 7" Portable Digital LCD TV - Black (DT191SA) Review

Digital Labs 7 Portable Digital LCD TV - Black (DT191SA)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
1. Not HDTV but still it has a nice clear 7" widescreen picture.
2. Compact and portable.
3. Easy to use.
4. Electronic Program Guide.
5. Closed caption.
6. It pulled in 27 digital channels/sub-channels plus 2 analog channels with the supplied "whip" (monopole) antenna and an astonishing 55 digital channels/sub-channels and 2 analog channels using a powered in-door "rabbit ears" antenna in a suburb of Dallas, Texas.
7. Built-in rechargeable battery lasted 2 hours 35 minutes before requiring recharge.
8. 3 preselected and 1 customizable personal "Picture" mode to suit your environment/preference.
9. A great price at $70 at time of writing.
Cons:
1. I do not know why the TV Channels need to be re-scanned after been switched off (about 10% of the time).
2. Unsuitable for use in a moving car (picture becomes fuzzy).
3. Occasional fading due to weak signals.
Wish Features:
1. An "Update" scan button which will add to the previously scanned channels. Currently using the "Auto Scan" button will replace ALL the previously scanned channels.
2. Memory Card slot (with appropriate software) for playing music/songs and viewing photos and video clips.
3. A battery compartment where the user can easily replace the rechargeable battery.

Philips PT902/37 9" Portable Digital HDTV with FM Tuner Review

Philips PT902/37 9 Portable Digital HDTV with FM Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this TV to use in the kitchen, intending to hook it into my DISH satellite system. Although the box indicates it will work with "cable", this is not exactly the case.
After messing with this for about a week, I finally realized it had no pre-set channels on it. Therefore, I could not set it to channel 3 or 4 so it could receive the signal from my DISH box. I called Philips Customer Support and confirmed this.
This TV will only work with systems that do not require a box to de-scramble the signal. If that is your intention you should be okay, and this little TV has an absolutely gorgeous picture.
I also suggested to Philips that hardly anyone is familiar with a TV without channels and they really should do a better job of advertising this on the box. I expect we'll see lots of these showing up at a reduced price in the "opened box" category. Like the one I am returning.

Artec T28A - 8.5 LCD TV - widescreen - portable
Average Reviews:

I own the Artec 8.5" portable handheld televison,It worked perfectly right out the box. Setup is easy(scanned 18 channels and that is five channels I didn't have before with full size tv) and the included manual is simple and easy to understand. It includes:a power adapter,AV cable, simple to remove antenna and antenna connector, remote control with battery.Mine also included the optional Digital Flat antenna. Both antennas are interchangable, the normally included antenna is amazingly strong so you may or may not need the Digital Flat antenna. It depends on your area. The televison is just as sturdy as a bigger model LCD tv. The picture is crystal clear and the sound surprisingly good for such a small tv.The remote does indeed control everything,it is small and not as cheaply made as other remotes. Cons:2hr battery life and included stand is not strong enough hold the televison up.

Pegasus ST09 9-Inch LCD HDTV with ATSC Tuner, Gray Review

Pegasus ST09 9-Inch LCD HDTV with ATSC Tuner, Gray
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This small set meets our needs perfectly. It was purchased to replace our trusty 5 in B&W analog at the time of the digital conversion. We use this set only in the bathroom in the morning to watch news and sports while getting ready for work, so we are not with concerned with receiving scores of channels. It took about 9 days to arrive using the free shipping option. The set was well packaged and unlikely to be damaged with routine handling. Setup was a breeze following stepwise instructions (with pictures) on a quick setup card. After the digital conversion the auto scan quickly picked up 14 over-the-air channels (which included all 6 major channels in this area) using only the provided very small HD antenna. The antenna cable connects at the top of the set rather obtrusively; this could have been better designed. We have not tried a cable connection for comparison. Reception for the major channels is good. The picture is clear and sharp, far better than our old 5 in analog set, but it is far from the quality of our 46 in Sony LCD. The picture varies somewhat from channel to channel, some being a little dark and the next a little too light with a washed-out appearance. This can be corrected fairly well using the brightness and contrast controls which are easily accessible via the full function remote. The sound is adequate for this small set and the way we use it: in a bathroom, with the water running. We did not set our expectations unrealistically high.
We highly recommend this 9 in digital TV for use in a kitchen, bath, workshop, etc. for over-the-air reception in a tight space.

Digital Prism 7" Portable Digital LCD TV Review

Digital Prism 7 Portable Digital LCD TV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, the digital switch wasn't without problems! This TV has a wonderfully clear picture for the stations that you can receive. There are a few things to consider though. You will probably need another different antenna because the one provided doesn't get many stations. I had to purchase an amplified antenna (bought 4 of them and eliminated them one by one) to get my local stations. If you live in an area with tall buildings, mountains, etc. you will no doubt have issues. Apparently, digital signals are not as strong as analog signals and reception is poor because of this. You will also need a tripod to stand it on (like the small ones for digital cameras) as it does not have a base that stands up easily. You also have to have a lot of patience to locate a signal as moving even slightly makes a big difference. It's a bit clumsy with the external antenna attached. I think we were used to the mobility of the old analog type products and this technology is a bit quirky. So if you're the impatient type, this might not be for you.

SuperSonic SC499D 9 LCD Portable Digital TV with ATSC/NTSC Tuner and AC/DC Power (1 Each)
Average Reviews:

I was looking for a battery power TV expressly for use in case of a a power outage. After reading reviews on several brands of portable TV's from various places, I decided to give this one a try. Battery was fully charged when received.
The first channel scan with the provided antenna didn't pick up anything ,(I live about 20 miles from the closest broadcast tower). I hooked up an old set of rabbit ears that came with a TV that I purchased many years ago, rescanned and picked up 3 channels, one weather station, the local NBC affiliate, and something else. The weather & local news is what is important to me when the power is off, so that is fine. I hooked it to the cable, rescanned and received all my regular cable channels. For emergencies this will work. I am purchasing a 12 volt power supply that runs on 8 D cell batteries as a backup to the internal battery which lasted about 2 hours.
It has a very good picture when hooked up to rabbit ears & maybe even better when hooked to the cable.
Another note: I repositioned the rabbit ears and now get 6 channels.
The power supply I purchased is not available here. [...].
The only negatives: provided antenna & the coax connection is to tight to screw the cable to it. (I solved this with a push on connector that raises the connection enough for easy attachment of cable or antenna).
The picture of this unit posted on Amazon & elsewhere is not the SC-499D. Look at the posted customer images to see the image I posted from the manufactures website.
Update: Amazon has changed the image on their website since I added the one from manufacturers website.

I purchased this TV /DVD player as a Christmas present and was shocked to find that the T.V. did not pick up one channel with the antenna provided. I got a booster antenna at Radio Shack for $12 and was able to get 22 air channels. The DVD works well and the colors are very nice. I'm not too sure how well it will work when we get out next hurricane or how long the battery will last, but this is why I purchased this item.

Haier HLT10 10-Inch Handheld TV, Black Review

Haier HLT10 10-Inch Handheld TV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The HD picture is bright and clear, surprisingly good for a TV this small. The Black Levels are better than i expected too. The screen's aspect ratio is a bit odd - it's 16:10 (not 16:9). The screen is matte/non-reflective. The casing has a rubbery soft skin.
The digital tuner in this TV is QAM capable, and i discovered that it stores and remembers the Over-The-Air (OTA) channel map and the Cable channel map separately which is really handy. I can have it connected to TWC cable straight from the wall and watch all my local QAM "HD" cable channels and analog cable channels, then when i take it down to the garage and connect it to my UHF/VHF rooftop antenna lead, i just go into the Channel Menu and change the Antenna setting from CABLE to AIR and the previously stored OTA channel map then becomes available. When i bring it back into the house and connect it back to cable from the wall, i go into the same menu and switch it back to CABLE and all of my QAM channels become available. If you switch sources on virtually all other small to large LCD and Plasma TVs you have to re-scan for the channels every time you change sources and that takes several minutes. But with this TV it's accomplished with just a quick antenna mode setting change. To set up both tuner modes, connect it to a good antenna, put the TV into AIR mode and run a scan the OTA channels. Then for cable TV, connect it to your cable feed from the wall, put the TV into CABLE mode and run a scan for your cable channels.
The Channel menu has a Show/Hide setting where you can select or de-select any of the Cable or OTA channels that have been scanned into the tuner.
You can directly enter the actual channel number using the number keys and the dash (-) key on the remote which takes you directly to that channel (7.1 or 4.2 for instance). Do not hit the Enter key afterwards, that doesn't work for channel changing.
I can disable any unwanted channels from the "Favorites" list by unchecking them in the setup submenu and the TV will not tune to them when i'm hitting the CH+/CH- keys, but if i enter the direct channel number on the remote the TV will tune to that "disabled" channel.
The Picture Settings Menu doesn't have a Color Temperature setting, but i discovered it hiding in the Options Menu so don't be alarmed. It gives the choice of Cool, Normal, or Warm. Normal looks best to me.
The remote is a nice full-featured unit with real buttons, and takes two AAA batteries. Many other little LCD TVs have a cheap flat credit-card type remote where the membrane "buttons" crack over time. It has a Zoom key that gives you the choice of FULL or NORMAL. Both modes are available for all channels so you can always select the correct aspect ratio for SD and HD programming. See the Picture of the Remote to see all the keys it has.
The Antenna signal meter is very basic and is displayed along with other various info when you press the INFO key on the remote. It doesn't have a numeric range or any sort of strength bar - the only information it gives is BAD or NORMAL or GOOD. When a station's reception is NORMAL, there is some digital screen freezing and macroblocking so they should have labeled it FAIR instead.
It has a built-in fold-out easel stand with two lean-back settings, and it also comes with a nice removable tilt-adjustable oval-base pedestal stand that snaps into the back of the TV.
It comes with a special Audio/Video adapter cable with male yellow/red/white RCA jacks on one end, and a 3.5mm male A/V pin connector on the other end to stick into the TV's A/V Input jack (this cable is not listed as being included in the product details on the various websites so it was a nice surprise to find it in the box).--------------------------------------------------------------
Cons:
The screen resolution is 480p. It is not HD, but it does properly fill the screen when watching an HD program either through the TV's tuner, or through the A/V input from an HD STB.
Screen aspect ratio is actually 16:10, not 16:9 like a normal widescreen TV. Round things look a little oval, and people look a little thinner than they really are (as compared to how they normally look on my various 16:9 Plasmas and LCD TVs). A little irritating.
Does Not have bass or treble settings in the Audio Menu, but the tone is decent and acceptable for a small TV like this.
While i can't get skin tones looking completely accurate, they're close enough for casual viewing and don't look horrible or anything. Different channels look more accurate than others too.
The analog basic cable channels don't look very good, but that's to be expected on an LCD TV. But SD programming on the digital channels looks pretty good. HD channels look very good, except for that 16:10 thing.....
There are no Vesa mounting holes on the back or any other way to attach a wall mounting bracket to this TV.
The included antenna is virtually useless unless you're really close to the broadcast towers so don't expect much out of it. I'm 29 miles from the towers on Mt. Wilson and the antenna can't pick up a thing - and i can see the towers on the mountain. This TV needs to be connected to Cable or a good indoor or roof antenna. Some of the digital channels here in L.A. are on VHF, but most are on UHF. The TV gets a perfect signal from my roof antenna on all channels.
Be very careful when removing the clear plastic film covering the screen. It's kinda tucked under the edge of the bezel and if you just yank it off (like i did) it leaves a bunch of little pieces of film stuck around the edges of the screen. I had to very carefully pick a few dozen pieces out with my needle-tipped tweezers.

This tv is very very nice with a great picture at a good price. The volume is a little low though so I had to hook up external speakers I had left over from an old computer. Also, it gets NO channels over the flimsy folding pole antenna. Nothing. Maybe you could get something if you lived very close to a transmission tower. It does work great however (except for the low volume) if you plan to connect it to cable. There are NO instructions on how to do this and that causes potential problems also. You have to yank off the folding pole antenna that it comes with to reveal the plug for coxail cable imput.

Philips PVD700/37 Portable 7-Inch LCD TV, Black Review

Philips PVD700/37 Portable 7-Inch LCD TV, Black

Hi everyone,
Just purchased this 7" Phillips TV for my mom for Christmas, it is very good. With the Digital conversion from analog to digital I was unsure if I would get one because I didn't know if it was going to get the channels. But to my amazement I did receive all of my channels here at the Metro-Houston Area. The small antenna does wonders; I was even able to pick up channels that I can't get on my regular TV.
It was ready to use, comes with a wall adapter, remote control, & built in battery last a little above the 2.5 hr mark. Remote control has no volume up or down and also can't turn off the TV; but my guess is since it is a small TV, why would you need a remote since you have to be close to it anyways ^_^. Haven't tested it in a moving vehicle but if I moved the antenna too much the TV says it can't pick up the channel so my guess is that in a moving vehicle it will be a little difficult to pick up channels.
All I wish now is for an SD slot, Mp3 slot, and DVD player; it will be great if Phillips decided to make one. :)Will recommend to all my friends.
