I live about 45 miles from several TV towers located in Indianapolis. I have some big trees near my house but a pretty good clear line of sight in the direction of the towers. I mounted this antenna on the second floor of my house in a corner walk-in closet on the side facing toward the towers (Southwest). There is a very small window, with plaster and brick walls. I used an old torchette floor lamp as a base to raise the antenna as high as possible from the floor (about 5 ft.). I pointed the arrows on the plastic disk in the general direction of the towers, wired it up, and immediately got 12 stations-- several in HD! With a little adjustment, I am now getting 17 channels. All of the networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) are in crystal clear HD. I'm also getting "extra" network stations (e.g., for NBC in the Indy area -- 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3). I tried a regular (HB-8) UHF antenna in my attic but that did not work nearly as well due to the foil backed insulation. Inside, higher is not always better. I may still experiment more with the HB-8 though. However, I think I am getting about the maximum channels I can get in my area. I am saying goodbye to my cable company's TV service and will be saving about $60 a month. I could not be more pleased with this product. It does an excellent job on both UHF and VHF broadcasts.
