Antennacraft HDVIEW360 R Mini-State R Antenna System RF Remote/Direction Memory Review

Antennacraft HDVIEW360 R Mini-State R Antenna System RF Remote/Direction Memory

I live about 45 miles from several TV towers located in Indianapolis. I have some big trees near my house but a pretty good clear line of sight in the direction of the towers. I mounted this antenna on the second floor of my house in a corner walk-in closet on the side facing toward the towers (Southwest). There is a very small window, with plaster and brick walls. I used an old torchette floor lamp as a base to raise the antenna as high as possible from the floor (about 5 ft.). I pointed the arrows on the plastic disk in the general direction of the towers, wired it up, and immediately got 12 stations-- several in HD! With a little adjustment, I am now getting 17 channels. All of the networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) are in crystal clear HD. I'm also getting "extra" network stations (e.g., for NBC in the Indy area -- 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3). I tried a regular (HB-8) UHF antenna in my attic but that did not work nearly as well due to the foil backed insulation. Inside, higher is not always better. I may still experiment more with the HB-8 though. However, I think I am getting about the maximum channels I can get in my area. I am saying goodbye to my cable company's TV service and will be saving about $60 a month. I could not be more pleased with this product. It does an excellent job on both UHF and VHF broadcasts.

RCA ANT1650 Flat Digital Amplified Indoor TV Antenna Review

RCA ANT1650 Flat Digital Amplified Indoor TV Antenna
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I rarely write reviews for things that don't make immediately positive impressions (or horrible ones), and this was one of the positive ones. To be brief, with this antenna I now receive signal strengths between 64-74% on a couple stations 38 miles away that I didn't get before! I did a test of signal strengths among six different stations; first with rabbit ears and then with the amplified signal of this new RCA ANT1650. The rabbit ears averaged a signal strength of 51.66% (with a low of 32% and a high of 74%). The ANT1650 received an average signal strength of 90.16% (with a low - among the tested stations - of 67% and a high of 100%)!
This product was also very easy to set up. I connected the antenna to the detachable amplifier with a coaxial cable and then connected the amplifier to the TV with another coaxial cable. I then plugged in the power adapter for the amplifier (it will work about as well as rabbit ears with the amplifier's power adapter unplugged), turned on the TV, did an auto-channel search, deleted some analog stations, and was good to go. The flat antenna part can be situated in a variety of ways so as to get the best signal. You can attach it to the wall with two screws, you can set it upright with a stand (kind of like a picture frame), or you can lay it flat. For our situation, it worked best in an upright position so as to avoid being heated up by other equipment. Because it's rather inconspicuous as a shape and color, it looks good as well - certainly much better than our tv's previous rabbit ears. The only thing better would be if the tv worked without this item in the first place.
Here are the signal strength results from six test stations. I tested the rabbit ears on a clear morning and tested the ANT1650 on a clear afternoon of the same day. Both antennas were placed in the same location, which wasn't necessarily ideal for the ANT 1650:
With rabbit ears and clear windless weather:
Station A: 51%
Station B: 42%
Station C: 32%
Station D: 74%
Station E: 61%
Station F: 50%
With amplified ANT1650 propped vertically and clear windless weather:
Station A: 94%
Station B: 67%
Station C: 93%
Station D: 100%
Station E: 100%
Station F: 87%
I have since done a follow-up test with the ANT1650 laid flat and it averaged slightly better at 92%, even under windy conditions.
With amplified ANT1650 laid flat and clear windy weather:
Station A: 89%
Station B: 93%
Station C: 99%
Station D: 85%
Station E: 100%
Station F: 86%
To summarize, most of the stations look and sound great with the antenna just laying flat. Once in awhile, a problem station cuts in and out, and you have to prop the antenna up. In my case, it was just one station that was problematic. Not a big deal, though design-wise, they might've made it easier to prop up the antenna by having a built-in stand swing out of the backside.

I bought this as a backup to Comcast cable TV service.
I was totally surprised at how well this little antenna worked.
I live about 15-17 miles from the local station transmitters, in a housing development, on the back side of a hill surronded by other homes higher on the hill which border on a 100 year old forest of 75-100 foot tall trees.
I don't know if it can get much worse than this.
I hooked it up, ran a channel scan and low and behold it picked up 17 channels.
I was amazed at how good the HD looked not to mention the non-HD channels.
It is worth every penny!
I would reccomend this antenna for those of you who might live in a similar location.
I think it would pull in even more stations (maybe 3 to 5) if I had a clearer line-of-site east and west.
I did have one small complaint. The coax cable is captive to the antenna and being so rigid and the antenna so light it was a bit of a nuisance.

With digital it really depeds on where you are. If you are in a valley you get less reception than if you are on a pain. Simple... Digital does not bend like analog.
This antenna looks great ( you cant see it) and the signal does not break up when someone moves like traditional antennas. I didnt give it 5 because it ir only rated for 25 miles even though I get stations from over 100 miles away. No real cons for my set up. I use it on the second floor next to a window and it works great.

I bought this after I tripped over my Terk antenna--parked in the middle of the room for the best reception--and bent it and drew blood on myself. I bought this one because it was small and wouldn't trip me and because it was on sale and therefore worth the risk.
And there is always a risk. Everybody's reception is different, and I have found that the highest-rated antennas--which work fine for other folks--have not worked as well for me.
I hooked it up and scanned the channels on my TV, and was shocked that this tiny lightweight thing picked up all the same channels as my two more expensive and larger amplified antennas. With my other antennas, my DTV reception is affected by movement in the room, but not with this antenna, which hides nicely behind the TV. I had to move the other antennas depending on which channel I was watching, but this one just sits there, hidden, receiving it all.
I just bought another one for my kitchen TV.

Terk Low-Profile Indoor Antenna (TV5) Review

Terk Low-Profile Indoor Antenna (TV5)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
for geographic reference I live 25 miles NW of DC.
The only CON was that the square antenna band takes a bit more lateral "real estate", but for the good reception I'm getting, its worth it
SUMMARY:
Someone gave me an old style antennae with a booster attachment and it worked OK, but I had to adjust it for certain channels, then during a surgical recovery I used cable for a couple of months then when I had the cable turned off, I couldn't get the old boosted antennae to restore the usual network (ABC, CBS, NBC, PAX, PBS, UPN AND WB{local}) reception.
So I did some research on booster antennaes and found this item advertised at a local big screen TV retailer. As they were highly recognized for being hi-quality and hi-tech, I did some more research on the TERK TV5 and while there were very few, (apparently this a reasonably new product), all the reviews I found were positive, so I ordered one oneline (saved $10 over the local retailer).
I installed the antennae in a matter of minutes (very simple design) and plugged it in.
Turned the TV on and VOILA! instant reception in the above channels and a few others too.
I am VERY pleased and satisfied, requires little or no adjustment (for my area) between channels.

Purchased this unit (mounted indoors) because I got tired of adjusting rabbit ears (I refuse to pay $50/month for cable). Unfortunately the reception quality is mediocre, if not subpar for its price. I get cleaner pictures with my old amplified rabbit ear set.

Indoor Amplified Uhf/vhf/fm/hd Review

Indoor Amplified Uhf/vhf/fm/hd
Average Reviews:

OK, so I live in an apartment building with an antenna on the roof and wired jacks connecting to this antenna in each apartment.
Originally I using the basic local package from the cable company and decided I didn't watch enough Live tv to continue paying for the package. So now I only receive internet service through the cable company.
Then when over the air broadcasts switched to digital i connected to the digital antenna on the roof and was able to get over 40 channels free. then this last summer the antenna on the roof has been very unreliable. I'd lose signal completely or it would pixelate really bad. I bought this antenna yesterday from walmart, for $27 and it works like a charm. I positioned it against the window and get anywhere from 50% to 100% signal and I get 42 channels. I have two flat screen tvs with digital ATSC tuners built in.
So I seem to get one more channel with this antenna then I did with the roof.
As far as the two reviews that say they had trouble with reception:
As always with any antenna, geographic location, building materials, antenna placement strength of signal all play a part in how well reception will be received.
Also I know people with analog tube TVs that have a digital box. Personally I have read up on those boxes and they aren't are reliable as a new digital TV. In fact, most of the boxes i could find reviews on only had 1 or 2 stars. Most report the boxes having a short life, or inconsistent ability to hold, or even tune into a signal.P.S. I live in central florida which is flat. And my apartment is in a high rise, so i'm sure both factors help reception for me.One Last thing, I have gain turned up on max and i get great signal results. I have two tvs one in the living room and one in the bedroom, the antenna is shared between them with a splitter. People would assume one tv might not work as well due to signal loss, but on the contrary, both tvs are great with very crisp signals.

This is basically no different than the 401, save for the clock. While the product is advertised as having 46 dB of gain, the box says 30 dB. But it works, and since I'm in an odd location, I can get more channels than I could with the 401. Plus, hard to find a decorative clock for 8 dollars (the difference between 401 and 501)

RCA Indoor Amplified Tv Antenna Review

The ANT525 is the perfect OTA antenna for me. I had tried 3 others amplified antennas, including the highly rated Terk HDTVa, prior to buying this one and the ANT525 worked the best. I placed each antenna in the same location and the ANT525 increased my signal strength by 10-15 points over the other antennas. The ANT525 is very solid and stable. I'm using antenna for UHF only so I removed the VHF dipoles which really increased the aesthetics of the antenna.
I highly recommend the ANT525. I wish I would've started with this one and I would've saved a lot of time returning inferior antennas.

I live in in a yellow area in West Berkeley, CA, so I shouldn't need an outdoor antenna. To hedge my bets, I purchased this antenna because it has a power gain i.e., it's amplified via a powercord to an electrical outlet. Before I plugged it in and attached it to my Sony Bravia 40in flat screen, I didn't receive ANY channels in the SF Bay Area. After I plugged it in and did a channel search, it found 31 digital channels.
I'd recommend to anyone purchasing an antenna for HDTV to do your research, find out what color zone you are in, and then hedge your bets and get an amplified antenna if you go with an indoor antenna.
I've no complaints with this antenna & now I get so many stations that I'm quite happy to embark on my 7th year of no cable or satellite TV! Between all of these digital channels I get over the air in the SF Bay Area and my Netflix subscription for movies, I'm set...and am VERY glad I don't need to pay a cable or satillite company to get TV reception.

Philips SDV2950/27 UHF Digital and Analog Indoor/Outdoor TV Antenna Review

Philips SDV2950/27 UHF Digital and Analog Indoor/Outdoor TV Antenna
Average Reviews:

The antenna works very well. I installed in the attic and it pulls in stations from as far away as 60 miles and does not seem to be too directional. The problem with the description is where it describes the size of the product. The size given is 15.2 x 4 x 27.8 inches. This is a very accurate measurement of the size of the BOX the product comes in. The length was important to me since I was planning to put it inside a cabinet. It turns out that the product itself, when assembled (very easy to do), is 48 inches long with an oblong cross-section of about 3 x 4 inches and a larger center portion. Thus the attic installation. Great product - description needs work!

Winegard SS-3000 Amplified Indoor UHF/VHF Antenna Review

Winegard SS-3000 Amplified Indoor UHF/VHF Antenna
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a EE and know a thing or two about antennas. Never had a need for an indoor antenna until a friend moved to the city and had terrible problems with ghosting in the analog channels and pixelation plus stuttering in the digitals. After testing seven indoor models ranging from simple $10 rabbit ears to fancy $150 models I have to say that this is by far the best. Note that this is a very specialized antenna. It's meant for use in areas of strong signals but without a clear path to the transmission towers. It will not work well if you are far (lets say more than 25 miles) from your source, at which point I would recommend the Winegard HD-1080, which is also sold in Amazon. Not really an indoor antenna but small enough for a balcony or to hide behind plants, etc.
This beauty can also pickup high end VHF (ch 7-13) fairly well in my friend's area. It can get channels 2-6 but not as well as bigger rabbit ears antennas (this is not a flaw, but a physical limitation since the antenna is only 27" wide). This is important b/s after the 2/18/09 digital switch, some stations will switch back from transmitting in UHF to their original VHF channels. Check antennaweb.org to see if that will affect your city. Some stations have not announced that yet so it will not show in their list, but you might be affected in the future if you have a local station which is currently transmitting analog in the VHF and digital in the UHF. It's up to the station to decide if they want to switch back or not. The reason for this switch is that since they have to keep transmitting in analog until 2/17/09, they can't use their VHF channel for digital and are just using a free UHF channel until they stop analog transmissions. In my friend's case one local station which is currently transmitting digital in UHF is going to switch back to channel 7. So keep in mind that unlike what many people think, OTA HDTV is not UHF only.
Bottom line, best indoor antenna with very good UHF and good VHF reception in areas with strong signals but with multipath problems and lack of clear line of sight to the transmitting towers. Not my first choice for medium to distant stations.
