Very poor quality. Made in China, that's maybe why.
1. The rotating motor broke in five minutes after installation!!! So, I simply rotated it to right position by hands and fixed that with couple screws. It is not rotating anymore.
2. Feels fragile, doubt it survive this winter.
3. Reception is OK but I would expect much better effect (it's roof installation after all). Still don't get those channels, which showed 30% signal before on my homemade antenna in attic.
So, I just wasted $26 paid for this crap, as it is not worthwhile to return and pay for shipping. Stay away from this product.

I'm a first timer at getting OTA HDTV. This has been an experiment in progress for the past 5 weeks. I have gone through four antennas (they are all here as I write this) before finding something that's satisfactory (rather than tolerable).
I live around 25 miles from Manhattan, where the towers of most TV stations are located. I am also aware of the directional information from [...], and have experimented accordingly with its effects on reception. My apartment's windows all face north, while the signals all comes from southwest. I cannot get signals from where it comes from, and thus needed to get signals from deflections perhaps off nearby buildings and trees. It's a very poor circumstance for over-the-air reception, maybe just slightly better than being underground. Signals are weak, and are affected by weather. Stormy and windy days have shown effects at disrupting signal reception.
With this said, and without going into much detail, let's talk about the antennas. Now all these antenna have been tested with the same equipment, setup, directional adjustments, location, etc. etc. and have been tested through good an foul weather, day and night, to observe differences.
1.Terk HDTVa Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception- After reading some rave reviews and high ratings at [...], log periodic types (looks like a fishbone) seems to be the way to go. I got the Terk HDTVa first, thinking that the amplification and VHF antenna should nail my reception problems at the start. However, after more than two weeks of fidgeting around ad nauseam (directions, locations, amplifications, different devices, etc.), I only managed to pick up two ATSC channels' signals, and even those don't have strong enough signals to display anything. I thought maybe it's just my poor location, and that I should probably give up on the attempt. The included in-line amplifier dongle doesn't work at all. Powering it on makes no difference in signal strength readings, which hovered around 5-10%.
It is well built, looks nice, good concepts, but it just didn't work.
2.Phlips PHDTV1 Philips PHDTV1 Digital HDTV-UHF Indoor Antenna- The venerated "silver sensor" which was previously sold under the Zenith brand also had great ratings and reviews. It's in fact nearly legendary. I decided, in desperation, to try it out, even if it doesn't have amplification. It seems all my local HD channels are in UHF anyway, so I won't miss the VHF dipoles.
The unit has startlingly poorer build quality compared to the Terk. It has paint bubbles, hairs and dusts trappings in the paint, sharp edged cheap plastics and much thinner metal blades that's covered in oil and has some dings and bendings. I wasn't impressed with the quality, and didn't expect much from it as I set it up.
To my surprise, it picked up 9 working channels (note: the terk got two channels' signals, but they didn't work) from the start, even if it's randomly placed. It's thrilling as it was the first time I saw OTA HDTV. After some adjustment and location experiments, I was able to receive 19 channels. However, not all of these channels work well given the same direction.
The directionally sensitive antenna needs to be adjusted as I switch channels. e.g. NBC and CBS seems to work well in one direction, while ABC has its own favorite direction, which works also with FOX. I tried as best as possible to find a compromise point where everything works. I couldn't. It just needs to be adjusted constantly.
The transmission is often dogged by reception fluctuations. Signal quality tend to fluctuate quite a bit, especially affected by weather. That means the TV playback would get choppy at times, with its severity dependent on the direction I point the antenna at. I didn't think fluctuating signals was a characteristic until I tried the latter two antennas later. I also found that I had to constantly play with the directional positioning to get a stable signal from each of the stations.
It works, and I was impressed, but then in retrospect it could only be best described as a "tolerable" HDTV experience as I struggled for a smooth signal delivery.
3.RCA ANT111 Basic Indoor Antenna- While shopping in stores, I saw this basic and classic RCA loop/dipole antenna for less than $[...]. I couldn't resist the temptation to try it out, just for the heck of it. It is also a different type of antenna than the previous two.
Again, I was surprised. This cheap antenna worked well, especially considering how it's only a fraction of the price of the two I'd tried. I ended up getting 17 channels, a few less than the PHDTV1, with the same location and setup. Some channels also don't work, even if signals were detected. The quality of the signals seems to be the key.
So what's so special about it? It strangely had better signal delivery for the channels that worked. It's not as choppy, and quality level is very steady. It is also not as affected by directional positioning. I was for the first time able to view FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC without adjusting the antenna. However, the lack of directionality also makes it ambiguous when I lost the signal. It seems that there's no "favorite direction" for the channels, which also means I can't pull in stronger signals at my choosing. It is also quite susceptible to weather changes, particularly wind (which probably affected signals reflected by trees?)
The signal strength also seems to be a little weaker, though the signal quality tend to be higher in general. That probably contributed to the smoother video delivery. It also tempted me to get a similar design that has amplification.
4.Philips MANT510 Philips High Performance Amplified Indoor Uhf/ Vhf/ Fm Antenna- This unit has a "digital TV optimized, patent pending UHF panel array". I thought I'd try it out just for the slightly different antenna design, if not just for the adjustable amplification.
Well, it works, and works quite well. The antenna doesn't work without power, and with amplification turned off it works a little less than unpowered PHDTV1 and ANT111. Yet with the amplification turned on, I get 24 channels, with strength up to 81% (compared to 3-10% unamplified, and quality consistently above 60 and usually in the 70-90%+. That generates the most reliable video delivery of all the ones tried.
While thunderstorms still managed to distrupt signals, it's much less often and only momentarily. I also don't have to worry about hunting for signals as I just point it in one general direction and I get everything but three NJN channels (they are even further from here.. maybe a good 50 miles).
I finally can just set the antenna and forget it. It lets me focus on the programming rather than antenna adjustment. While it needs to be powered, it gives me the confidence to finally enjoy HDTV, rather than tweaking and tolerating it. It's good enough that I can probably stop searching. I hope it'll be helpful to you who may be going through the same purchasing decision nausea as I have.

I have endured and suffered an ongoing struggle to receive local VHF channels Over the air (OTA) through an antenna. The past few months have been particularly bad especially for digital channel 12 on VHF which for most of that time was not receivable and when I could get it I was getting between one and two bars (out of ten) of signal strength. I would usually get two bars of signal strength on digital channel 7 VHF. I had been using a 30ish year old Radio Shack UHF/VHF combo 160 inch rooftop antenna that came with my house for VHF and a seperate UHF AD XG91 antenna combined through a CM 7777 preamp. UHF reception has been pretty good for the last year and a half or so, but it has been a struggle with VHF reception. I live in the northwestern Berkshire Mountain range, just to the east of Mt. Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts. I sit about 49 miles east of the transmitters broadcasting the Albany, NY networks as I live in that DMA. I have done a lot of research into my problem and decided to replace my Radio Shack with a new antenna. I narrowed it down to a Channel Master 3671 or a Winegard HD8200U. I decided to go with the Winegard and ordered it from Amazon because it was supposed to be UPS shippable and there's no place around here to get one. I was suprised at how long the box was at seven feet and it arrived with all but one staple removed and the antenna suffered a bit of cosmetic damage in transit including a few slightly bent elements that I was able to straighten without much trouble. All of the parts were there however and it wasn't much trouble to assemble. It was a bit bigger than I expected, about three feet longer than the Radio Shack it replaced at a total of about 14 feet assembled, but it is reasonably light. So I got it installed and aimed and checked my TVs. Well to my surprise my signal strength on digital Channel 12 and digital Channel 7 went from one to two bars up to a solid ten bars (out of ten) on both channels! I was quite amazed and wish I had replaced this antenna long ago. Channels 6 and 10 ANALOG now also come in crystal clear and I'm even getting channel 2 analog out of Utica, NY (about 30 miles west of Albany, NY) sound and snowy picture. Simply an amazing antenna and I recommend it highly to anyone on the fringe. I should be set now for the analog shutoff when some other channels move back to VHF. Very satisfied with this antenna! Amazon as always beat everyone else on price and satisfaction. Delivery was a bit shaky, but that was UPS's fault, not Amazon

When I wanted a new antenna for the digital changeover, I tried several antennae: classic rabbit ears and loop, amplified loop (Philips Mant510, SDV6122, SDV2720/27), RCA ant1050, Radio Shack 1892 (the UFO), and the TERK HDTVa. The Radio Shack 1892 and TERK HDTVa worked the best but I ran into a new problem- my wife told me that they were too ugly. So I went to the "sells for less" store and picked up the Philips sdv3132. It was small (about 11 inches in diameter and about an inch high) and eye-pleasing- black and round. Imagine my surprise when I attached it and found it to work as well as most of the other antennae I tried, despite its petite dimensions! Wife approved, husband gets to watch TV. :-)

I live in a suburb with some stations broadcasting from 17 miles north and some from 22 miles south. Directional antennas won't work for me without a rotor and constant hassle. The Metrostar works great. It pulls in every station listed on Antennaweb with great signal strength, and it does so while hiding in my attic.
I chose this over a Channel Master CM3000A antenna because one station in my area is broadcasting digitally on VHF channel 7, and at least one site I checked said the CM3000A was only designed to pick up UHF frequencies. I'm definitely happy with the results I'm getting.

First the good. I installed this antenna in my attic with an AP-8700 amplifier. It immediately brought in all of my locals and their sub-channels with great signal strength. The farthest tower from me is probaly 30-40 miles. I have 3 TV sets running off this antenna and it works great. I have no complaints now that it is up (see next).
Now the bad:
-The instructions are terrible. It's not that difficult to put together and set up, but don't expect the instructions to help you get there.
-I actually went through two of these antennas. The first one shipped from Amazon missing some parts. I exchanged it using Amazon's return process (which is great by the way), but the second unit arrived missing the same parts. I called Winegard and they were aware of several units that went out with missing parts and sent me replacements 2 day.
The two bad items are the reason I rated this 4 stars. Both Winegard and Amazon's customer service were great which is why they didn't get a lower rating. This is easily a 5 star antenna performance-wise, but hope you don't have the same problems I did with getting all the parts you need.

I bought this antenna for the purpose of receiving a single TV station: WTNH in New Haven, Connecticut. WTNH broadcasts on physical channel 10. The effective radiated power is only 12.4 kilowatts in my direction, and I am 48 miles from the transmitting tower on a line of sight. At my location, TV Fool rates the noise margin at 28.3 db and the power at -62.5 db.
Most of my channels are received via a Winegard 9095 UHF antenna. The 9095 has the unusual feature of having a VHF input to its balun. I have 12 feet of RG6 quad shield from the YA-1713 to the 9095, then 100 feet of RG6 quad shield from the 9095 to my Panasonic plasma. The YA-1713 is mounted only eight feet above ground level inside of a detached garage. The YA-1713 "looks" at WTNH through an exterior wall consisting of clapboards over two by fours. My detached garage does not have insulation or an inside wall. I'm not using an RF amplifier.
The result is a perfect, glitch free picture. Of course, the trees don't have leaves yet here in Western Massachusetts. I'll post back later if the reception degrades when the leaves come out.
I've given the YA-1713 five stars for its extremely impressive performance. However, I do have concerns with its build quality if you intend to use it as an outdoor antenna. First, the rivet that attaches the reflector to the boom was loose on arrival. This allows the reflector to wobble and there is no way to tighten the rivet. Second, two of the latches that hold the elements open were damaged just from unfolding the elements gently during assembly. Third, the elements are easily bent during careful mounting and have to be bent back into alignment after the antenna is in its permanent location.
I suspect that a YA-1713 that is used outside will have to be repaired or replaced after every heavy ice storm. Fortunately, heavy ice storms are a rare event even in western Mass. Given the excellent performance and low price, the YA-1713 would still be a good choice even if you had to replace it every five years or so.
Update 5/24/2011: The leaves are out and the run of RG6 quad shield cable to my TV has grown to 162 feet. Still no RF amp in use. WTNH remains glitch free at all times, which is more than I can say for my local UHF channels on a Winegard HD9095P. I previously described the YA-1713's performance as "extremely impressive," but I would now describe it as "superb."

My house is located at 13 miles north from Chicago TX stations in downtown.
Several big trees are blocking the line of sight from the right front of my antenna on chimney.
At first,I tried with an antenna Mod# DB4 due to its small size, but it gave me frequent dropping signals out on most channels I could get and no VHF high channels(CH2,CH7).
Therefore, I chose this antenna(Mod# CM-2020) which has strong directional and gain on UHF and high VHF channels. This antenna works perfectly for me except snowy of CH41(analog signal), even though its very long antenna.

I live in an apartment right in the middle between San Francisco and San Jose, so the significant transmitters are 31 miles away from opposite directions. First I tried the RCA ANT525 AMPLIFIED ANTENNA. It pulled in a lot of channels, but I had to crank up the amplification to the max. The problem is, it amplifies all disturbances too, so signal quality is unstable and varies greatly, for example when somebody moves around the room. This causes a very unpleasant viewing experience, especially with digital TV where picture and sound vanish completely when signal quality drops below a certain threshold.
Next up was the Philips High Performance Amplified Indoor Uhf/Vhf/Fm/HDTV Antenna, which boasts even more amplification. It performed significantly worse than the RCA, probably because I couldn't mount it high on the wall like the RCA.
Next, I ordered the highly recommended Antennas Direct DB2 Multi Directional HDTV Antenna, but cancelled the order after I realized that it's UHF-only. NBC is broadcast on channel 11 around here, and the summer games were one of the reasons why I bought a TV in the first place, so going UHF-only wasn't an option.
Then I found this Channel Master 4220. It claims to work also with high band VHF (channels 7-13 or something like that), so it should work perfectly for NBC. It's also a little smaller than the DB-2, which makes it even easier to use indoors. I just mounted it on the wall with a single nail. It looks a bit raw, but I actually like it, it's like contemporary wall art and goes well with a minimalistic modern interior. It took a while to find the best position, and now I get a solid signal for almost all channels without having to move the antenna. It's passive without amplification, so it doesn't need power and you don't have another cable going through your living room. Highly recommended!

It claims to have 125 miles of range, I don't think thats quite true but it is good enough to pick up signals from the nearest towers 40-50 miles away, but somedays it will pick up a certain station and other days it won't and it doesn't hold a signal strength any higher than 65, and usually holds a signal strength around 40. In the products defense I do live in a heavily wooded area with many many tall trees stretching above the height of the antenna, which I am aware probably plays a role in the low signal strength but to what extent I don't really know.

I purchased this antenna to use with a small digital T.V. that I can carry to different rooms in my house. The antenna is just as advertised and works fine on the T.V. for receiving digital channels. I was not able to find an antenna like this anywhere locally. This antenna comes with a type "BNC" male connector on it. Most T.V.'s come with a type "F" female connector. I purchased a type "BNC" female to "F" male adaptor at my local Radio Shack to allow me to use this antenna on the T.V. They are also available on this site.

This antenna has to be the longest range directional UHF antenna out there. I live 65 miles from the transmitters on Sutro Tower San Francisco that broadcast all the UHF stations I get. Not to mention I'm in the woods and have only one clear shot to the horizon to the South so a directional antenna is a must. Although it's not perfect this antenna does pick up all the major networks even those broadcasting at 500Kw. Personally I'm astonished but make sure you download a PDF of the instructions which is available from solidsignal.com.
Admittedly I put it up completely backwards with the corner screens facing front at first and then finally realized immediately after looking at the PDF a few weeks later that the antenna was backwards. When I turned it around and reversed the direction of all the reflectors so that they were all metal sides facing front the antenna started picking up the fore mentioned extended channels.
10/27/08: I ordered a second one of these and the instructions now are the same as the PDF mentioned but the color one is still easier to identify. My purpose was to stabilize the signal by combining 2 91xg antenna. This works well even with a splitter run backwards because the antennas are the same. You can also run different UHF antenna combined with a product called 'Joinantenna' (google will find it) but the trick with it is you have to isolate the dual reception to 1 channel and rely on one antenna for the whole spectrum. Also many of the antenna reflectors which snap on had extra plastic tags on the edges from molding that you'll want to twist off.

Granted the directions are bad, but it is so simple to set up that directions aren't needed. I bought it under the assumption that the range is 35 miles. I have it in the attic of our two story house, pointed at a station 60 miles away and it comes in flawlessly. All or local stations are 90 degrees off this station and they come in resonably well for being that far off. I tried it with am amplifier, but the amp is not needed so I removed it. Here are two good sites to help you find what stations you might recieve.

I did not do all of my homework when I bought this antenna. For what it is, it does a very good job of receiving UHF television signals, but I didn't realize the number of stations transmitting DTV on VHF frequencies. The antenna was easy to mount, came with very good hardware, was well constructed, but does not receive VHF signals well at all (it's not designed to).
If you are going to get an antenna to receive over the air television you probably will want an antenna that can receive VHF and UHF signals, not just the UHF signals that this will pull in.

Nice quality antenna, but it was significantly smaller than my old antenna and did not pick up the Boston channel digital signals as strongly on its own (1 bar out of 6, compared to 2-3 bars for my old antenna)but once I added the pre-amp BOOM! The digital signal exploded into an unbeliveable 6 out of 6 bars! No more dropped pictures and fantastic picture quality, visually in my opinon better than what the cable provider was giving me and I am saving $50.00 per month - SUPER NICE!
Boston to Shirley 40 miles, highly wooded, antenna sits on top of a second floor chimney, cable run from chimney to pre-amp 3', cable run from pre-amp to Samsung digital converter box approximately 40'.

For the money it is okay - but sems to need constant adjustment. Would set it for a channel then come bak later in the day and needed to adjust again.
